Enfleshed: Ecologies of Entities and Beings

Onomatopee 241, Kristiina Koskentola, Marjolein van der Loo, 2023

Anthrodecentric: A perspective which places humans on par with other beings, as opposed to above them.

“How do we imagine an active and implicated role of the human as one being among other beings? What might this entail, and what might this generate?”

Enfleshed: Ecologies of Entities and Beings is a book edited by Kristiina Koskentola (FI) and Marjolein van der Loo (NL). A wealth of perspectives is provided by the contributions of 17 authors, artists, and practitioners from across Eurasia. The volume spans various philosophical, scientific, and literary traditions from environmentalism and decoloniality to shamanism and feminist Sci-Fi poetry.

This approach results in a book that weaves together the perspectives of a multitude of entities and actors – humans being just one of many. The volume discusses the contradictory realities constructed by the current global economy as well as the power structures inherent in the production of knowledge and science:

The conflicts generated by ecological disaster, war, the global economy, identity politics, and the power structures of knowledge production and science here intertwine with shamanisms, rituals, magic, speculation, politics, and poetics.”

Contributions by Zoénie Deng, Rick Dolphijn, Stephan Dudeck & Christian Vagt & Yuri Vella, Taru Elfving, Giovanna Esposito Yussif & David Muñoz Alcántara (NÆS-Nomad Agency/Archive of Emergent Studies), Fu Xiaodong, Han Xiaohan, Kristiina Koskentola, Marjolein van der Loo, Mi You, German Popov, Nikolay Smirnov, Bo Wang, and Müge Yilmaz.
