The Finnish Cultural Foundation and MORPHO continue their collaboration in 2027 within the scope of MORPHO’s international residency programme.
The Finnish Cultural Foundation supports the participation of a Finnish visual artist or a visual artist based in Finland for a 5-month long residency at MORPHO, in the period of 1 August – 31 December 2027.
The application deadline is 31 August 2026, 16:00 Finnish time.
For whom?
The application is open only for Finnish visual artists or visual artists based in Finland who are permitted to travel and reside in Belgium for the duration of the residency.
MORPHO offers:
- Artistic guidance and practical assistance.
- Studio visits and field trips introducing you to the local art scene.
- A private bedroom in the residency house, including shared kitchen, bathroom and living room.
- An individual work space of 20-40 m2 in a former monastery with garden.
- A network of facilities for specific productions.
- Online presentation of the artist’s work.
- Free access to most exhibitions and events at Kunsthal Extra City.
The Finnish Cultural Foundation covers:
- A working grant for five months.
- Travel costs are covered according to the guidelines of the Foundation.
How to apply?
- Curriculum vitae (maximum three pages).
- A portfolio or photographs of artistic work.
Applications should be submitted using the Finnish Cultural Foundation’s Online Application Service. Applications close at 16:00 Finnish time on the last day of the application period. The form will guide you in filling out an application. Applications and all of their appendices must be in English.
After submitting your application, please check that the application’s status in the system is marked as “sent”. Submitted applications may be canceled using the « application management » function. No other changes can be made to the submitted application.
Selection criteria
- The residency is an added value for the artist’s practice.
- The project benefits from the residency community and context.
- The artist’s motivation aligns with what the residency has to offer.
Jury
The applications are selected by a jury including the Finnish Cultural Foundation and MORPHO’s artistic teams.
Deadline
- Application deadline: August 31, 2026, 4pm Finnish time.
- Announcement of results: Early December.
- Residency Period: August 1 – December 31, 2027.
About MORPHO
MORPHO is an artist residency and studio organisation in Antwerp, Belgium that supports the development of visual art and artists. It manages fifteen studio buildings and an international residency programme, advocates the place of artists in the city to policymakers and gives visibility to their presence to a wider audience.
MORPHO fosters local studio projects and international residency exchanges that give artists time, space and a network. At MORPHO, artists do not just get an individual workspace: they receive practical and curatorial support to develop their practice or project in an open environment that encourages critical dialogue and artistic experimentation; they are paired with a community of peers and a programme of weekly sessions that inspire and empower them professionally.
MORPHO’s main premises are located in the heart of Antwerp, behind the Central Station and Zoo, in the former director’s house of a biscuit factory (residency house) and a former dominican monastery (residency studios). A residency at MORPHO includes the use of an individual studio in the monastery, as well as accomodation in the shared residency house (common spaces include kitchen, living and dining room, courtyard, basement and library). The enclosed monastery garden is shared with Kunsthal Extra City and open to residents at any time.

About Finnish Cultural Foundation
The Finnish Cultural Foundation is to promote and develop cultural and economic life in Finland. In line with this, the Foundation provides grants to individuals and groups working in the sciences and the arts, and to people and organisations in other fields of intellectual and cultural endeavour.
