What can EUNIC Offer Artists and Cultural Organisations?

mrt 14, 2022 | Blog

This blog post was written by EUNIC Brussels intern, Chloé Chabannes-Delcourt.

First and foremost, you might be wondering: what even is EUNIC?

EUNIC stands for European Union National Institutes for Culture and is the European network of organisations who engage in cultural relations. EUNIC Brussels is one cluster of EUNIC Global, the biggest one in the world counting 29 members. Our members, cultural institutes, embassies or permanent representations to the EU, organise cultural projects with the aims to promote diversity and understanding and strengthen international dialogue and cooperation. It is all coordinated by one intern, changing every five to ten months. The Presidency is held by one of the members of the cluster and changes every year – this year, the Finnish Cultural Institute for the Benelux holds the presidency!

Each year, members of the cluster unite and organise cultural events: from literature events to film festivals, from exhibitions to music performances… EUNIC Brussels tackles all areas of art. Thanks to its multicultural network, it allows artists from all over the world – and especially from Europe, to join and share their gift with the public. We have also been lucky to collaborate with many local partners whose contributions have enriched our projects over the years: cultural institutions (BOZAR, Flanders Arts Institute) but also political and/or european actors (Wallonie-Bruxelles International, the European Parliament and the European Commission).

Some of our projects have been there since the beginning and still find success with the public. Transpoesie, an international poetry festival that has been celebrating multilingualism for over 10 years, is EUNIC Brussels’ flagship project. It has been adapting over time, keeping a modern character and offering new ways to look at poetry. In last year’s edition, we received very talented artists from all over Europe (Spain, Estonia, Finland, Scotland etc.) sharing their texts in different ways such as singing and reading, and on a range of topics including engaging poetry, identity and travel. Other projects are brand new but just as well received by the public. The Future of Living, which started last year and continues in 2022 is an event focusing on the link between new technologies/artificial intelligence and the creative industry. Last year was a real success and we are very excited for you to discover what we have planned for this year’s edition!
