Finland gets freaky at Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival

apr 7, 2025 | News

Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF) is happening this year for the 43rd time between the 8th and the 20th of April. BIFFF is a fantasy and horror film festival and one of the biggest genre film festivals in the world, showing over 100 features and shorts. The festival has a unique atmosphere, hosting noisy audiences and interactive screenings where moviegoers have the opportunity to comment on the movies real-time and interact with the directors and producers.

“BIFFF is a major community event, which doesn’t take itself seriously and enjoys a good play.” shares our Head of Programme, Malin Bergström.

Two Finnish premieres at BIFFF

After Us, the Flood by Arto Halonen is a science fiction film that is focused around the themes of environmental disaster, climate change and time travel. The screening at BIFFF is its Belgian premiere, having been released in December 2024. The Creeps by Marko Mäkilaakso is a horror-action film about two American youngsters in a Finnish ski resort. BIFFF will host its world premiere, with the film officially coming out at the end of 2025.

Arto Halonen is a film director known for his documentary films with social commentary. His past work includes films like The Shadow of the Holy Book, Princess and White Rage. After Us, the Flood has an exciting cast of actors including Elias Westerberg, Linnea Leino and Antti Reini.

Marko Mäkilaakso is a director known for his work with films and music videos. The Creeps is his fifth feature film and was released in 2021. His previous films include It Came From the Desert, Netflix’s Bordertown 3 and Helsinki Syndrome 1 and 2. The cast for The Creeps includes renowned actors Christopher Lambert, Jarmo Mäkinen and Michael C. Hall.
