Welcome Anni Koskela, our new EDUFI intern

jan 9, 2023 | News

Today is Anni Koskela’s first day as our new Communications and Project Assistant, welcome Anni!

We asked her to share a bit about her background and what she is most looking forward to living in Brussels and working at the Institute.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I grew up in Kainuu, an Eastern province of Finland covered in forests where the moose reigns supreme. I spent my childhood and adolescence performing in a local amateur theater company, which ignited my passion for the arts. I studied cultural anthropology at the University of Oulu from which I recently graduated with a master’s degree. I specialized in museum anthropology, so I’ll be sure to check out all of the Brussels museums with great fascination.

I’ve moved to Brussels with my boyfriend, who I met in this very city in the summer of 2019. I’m excited to enter the next chapter of our lives in this bustling city and to see what’s in store!

What are you most looking forward to living in Brussels?

After living in northern Finland, I find that a city like Brussels has an endless potential for discovery. Just on my walk to the office I see ten art galleries, cafés, and pubs I’d happily spend an afternoon in. There also seems to be a thriving English-language theater scene in Brussels and I cannot wait to catch a show! (And of course there’s the chocolate, the beer, and the fries.)

In general, Brussels offers a completely different environment from what I’ve used to, and a shake-up of my old routines is definitely welcome. It’s an opportunity to clear out the cobwebs and re-evaluate old habits and priorities.

What do you hope to get out of your internship at the institute?

I think this internship will provide a great view of the culture and arts scene in the Benelux area and in Finland. I’m looking forward to gaining insight of the day-to-day practices behind the institution’s programmes and projects. I also hope to build professional and personal relationships and networks through this internship, so that I can continue to be involved in this sector in the future.

Most importantly, the community here at the institute is incredibly warm and welcoming. I thrive when working as a part of a dedicated team and sharing in all the challenges and victories. I couldn’t be more excited to get started!

Welcome Anni, we are so happy that you joined the team!
