TelepART: July 2024

jul 16, 2024 | 2024, News, TelepART

In July, support from the TelepART Mobility Support Platform allocated by the Finnish Cultural Institute for the Benelux goes to:

Francis of Delirium at Ö Fest in Southern Finland.

Ö Fest is bringing the promising Luxembourg-based group Francis of Delirium to their first-ever concert in Finland. Held annually on an undisclosed idyllic island in the Finnish archipelago, the festival is focused on providing a stepping stone for young artists to make their mark on the music scene.

Many of the musicians who have debuted at Ö Fest have since graced the stages of larger Finnish festivals, such as Flow Festival and Ruisrock. While Ö Fest’s programme includes Finnish artists for the most part, the addition of Francis of Delirium serves to broaden the international network of the festival and its artists.

Francis of Delirium will perform at Ö Fest on Friday, 26 July. A warm welcome to Finland!

About the artist

With three EPs (‘All Change’, ‘Wading’ & ‘The Funhouse’), Luxembourg-based 20-year-old Jana Bahrich’s Francis of Delirium has quickly caught attention, finding champions in the likes of Pitchfork, Stereogum, The FADER, Paste, DIY, The Line of Best Fit, Clash, 6Music, Radio 1, KEXP, NPR and more. The band was shortlisted for 2022’s highly prestigious ESNS Music Moves Europe Award.

A restless energy and a desire to connect with the listener lie at the core of Francis of Delirium, with Jana’s personal lyrics being underpinned by an undeniable rock sound that is as liberating as it is intense. Hailed as a Gen Z-er excitingly redrawing 90s classic indie rock, a deep admiration for contemporary acts such as Car Seat Headrest, Japanese Breakfast, Mitski, Phoebe Bridgers and Sufjan Stevens is also abundantly clear.

Having made their North America debut in spring 2022 – playing 26 support dates with The Districts plus a debut headline show in New York and festival slots at both Shaky Knees and Treefort – Jana spent the second half of the year back in the UK and EU heading out on a number of support tours with the likes of Soccer Mommy, Horsegirl and Briston Maroney. Further support shows with Kings of Leon and Wolf Alice in Luxembourg rounded out the summer before packed performances at Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg and Iceland Airwaves in Reykjavik in the autumn and winter.

In early 2023 Jana went into Assault & Battery Studios in London with producer Catherine Marks (Boygenius, Foals) to begin work on the debut Francis of Delirium album. The first fruit of those recordings – ‘Real Love’ and ‘First Touch’ – were released in summer 2023. The debut album, ‘Lighthouse’, followed in March 2024.
