TelepART: February 2024

Fév 9, 2024 | 2024, News, TelepART

In February, support from the TelepART Mobility Support Platform allocated by the Finnish Cultural Institute for the Benelux goes to:

Roberto Fusco at the festival Het witte blad at Concertgebouw Brugge, Bruges, Belgium.

Autophagy III is a sound installation presented during the festival Het witte blad at Concertgebouw Brugge. The piece, supported by the festival, is co-authored by Italian Helsinki-based sound artist Andrea Mancianti and Belgian musician Tom De Cock. It is an immersive micro-percussive feedback installation, for which Roberto Fusco is responsible for the interactive light design. The piece is composed of sound-actuated elements, activated by a sound feedback system. The frame drums and cymbals are controlled by small transducers that convert the instruments into speakers, the sound of which in turn controls a feedback loop utilising a microphone.

About the artist

Roberto Fusco, (M.Phil. Music and Media Technology, D. Sc. (Technology), is an Italian media artist based in Helsinki. His work, in the form of installations or audiovisual performances, combines material and digital elements towards the creation of hybrid forms in which the materiality of the world, with its complexity and unpredictability, transcends what is computable. He has presented his work at festivals such as Ars Pori 2022, Aavistus audiovisual biennial (FI), ANTI festival, Blooming (ITA), LUX Helsinki, Mänttä Art Festival, Ars Electronica, VAFT (FI), NIME, RIXC (LT), FLUSSI (ITA), Currents New Media (USA), Videoforma (RU), PIXELACHE (FI), Borealis (NO), and Plektrum (EE), as well as in exhibition spaces such as Kuopio Art Museum, Titanik, Rajatila, MUU Galleria (FI), the Science Gallery (IE), and EYEBEAM (NY, US). He co-founded the audiovisual duo quietSpeaker together with Andrea Mancianti.
