1. First and foremost, we collaborated and engaged with over 100 artists and cultural professionals and 40+ partners from Finland, the Benelux and the Nordics!<\/p>\n

2. We co-produced ENTER EXUDE<\/em> the auto-erotic performance by Teo Ala-Ruona<\/strong><\/a> which premiered at Kiasma Theatre in Helsinki to much critical acclaim. In November, Ala-Ruona staged the North American premiere at Performa\u2019s Pavilion Without Walls<\/a> which had a special focus on Finnish performance, dance, and sound-based artists this year.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0pARTir<\/a> a new collaborative project between the Finnish Cultural and Academic Institutes (SKTI) and ten Finnish cultural institutes kicked off! The Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture awarded a special grant of \u20ac726,000 to the pARTir project as part of the European Union\u2019s cultural and creative industries structural support in the autumn of 2023.<\/p>\n

4. The Texture of Connection<\/em><\/a> by our SKF intern Yohannes Henriksson<\/strong> was born and premiered at URB Festival in Kiasma Theatre, Helsinki in June.<\/p>\n

5. Our EDUFI intern Anni Koskela<\/strong><\/a> joined the team and was an absolute star organising the showing of Suvi West\u2019s documentary Eatnameamet \u2013 Our Silent Struggle in Brussels<\/a>! Plus we had the honour of being joined by representatives of the S\u00e1mi community, Vice President of the S\u00e1mi Parliament Koivu-Jusse \u00c1nne (Anni Koivisto)<\/strong> and activist Elle Bieht\u00e1r Arvvu Iidd\u00e1 (Ida-Maria Helander)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

6. We welcomed our newest intern Tega Oke<\/strong> <\/a>who is supporting our biggest project of the upcoming year, Boys Won\u2019t Be Boys<\/em>\u2019 international debut in Finland<\/a>! Helsinki and Oulu, here we come!<\/p>\n

7. After a two-year international art programme, we brought Together Again<\/em> – a free contemporary arts festival<\/a> organised by the Finnish Cultural and Academic Institutes – to thousands of people in Helsinki Central Library Oodi and online. We collaborated with The Soft Collective<\/strong>, bringing their Safer Spaces For Unhad Conversations<\/em> to the Netherlands where they worked with artist Zulu Green<\/strong>. The resulting work was launched at the festival<\/a> in September.<\/p>\n

8. After a memorable study trip to the Netherlands with Finnish cultural professionals in 2022<\/a> where many new connections were made, we were excited to follow these journeys in 2023. Aaro Murphy<\/strong>\u2019s multimedia installation Volatile Score<\/em> was exhibited at Kunsthalle Turku<\/a> as well as Energy Bodies<\/em> curated by Rosa de Graaf<\/strong> and Niina Tervo<\/strong> at SIC<\/a>, Helsinki in the spring.<\/p>\n

9. The incredible third instalment of Sonya Lindfors<\/strong>’ series of works focusing on Blackness – Cosmic Latte<\/em> came to Julidans<\/a>, an International Festival for Contemporary Dance, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

10. We had the pleasure of supporting L. Puska<\/strong>’s\u00a0performance based project URGENT \u2013 Residency for Artworks<\/em>, hosting sculptures by Eva Spierenburg<\/strong> and Niina Tervo<\/strong> at our office<\/a>.<\/p>\n

11. After We’re Gone<\/em>, written and directed by Ima Iduozee<\/strong><\/a>, was screened at the eighth edition of the Africa is\/in the Future festival in Brussels.<\/p>\n

12.\u00a0 As a member of EUNIC Netherlands, we organised the third edition of Fair P(l)ay<\/em><\/a> – a series of events discussing sustainable remuneration practices in arts and culture with perspectives from international actors – this time as part of Dutch Design Week 2023 in Eindhoven.<\/p>\n

13. Cherish Menzo<\/strong> returned to Moving in November<\/a>, a Helsinki contemporary dance festival, with DARKMATTER<\/em>, which was received with standing ovation! Working together with Daniel Bonsu<\/strong>, Menzo included local participants in her Distorted Rap Choir<\/strong>, which explored the work’s sound methodology and developed a rap anthem that was recorded and integrated into the performance soundscape.<\/p>\n

14. For the 6th year we organised our International Women\u2019s Day Breakfast Discussion<\/a> with the Nordic diplomatic representations in Brussels. In 2023 we focused on Gender Equality in the Performing Arts<\/em>. We can\u2019t wait to share what we have planned for 2024!<\/p>\n

15. We had the pleasure of sharing the news that Finnish artist Sara Bjarland<\/strong>\u2019s work is to be presented along the Belgian coast at Triennial Beaufort in 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n

16. We supported 11 artists in 5 projects and a total of 10 performances through our TelepART Mobility Support Platform<\/a>. A highlight included The Grapes of Reason<\/em> by the Finnish director and novelist Saara Turunen<\/strong> which was performed in Belgium for the first time! Plus our team got the chance to see it at De Singel in Antwerp.<\/p>\n

17. Our Head of Programme, Malin Bergstr\u00f6m<\/strong>, travelled overland from Brussels to Oslo<\/a> to attend the Spring Days of the Finnish Cultural and Academic Institutes, just one of the steps we took this year in assessing our sustainability as an institute and planning our next steps to decrease our carbon footprint.<\/p>\n

18. 49 students signed up for our Finnish courses<\/a> on four levels from beginners to advanced.<\/p>\n

19. We almost went viral with our K\u00e4\u00e4rij\u00e4 support videos<\/a> and were swept away by his success at Eurovision.<\/p>\n

20. We had an audience reach of 27,040 on instagram<\/a>, up 290.3% compared to 2022 – thanks for the share Jani Toivola<\/strong><\/a>!<\/p>\n

21. Almost all our Executive Board gathered in Brussels and successfully planned our strategy for 2024\u20132026<\/a>.<\/p>\n

22. We were featured in some of Finland and Belgium\u2019s top print and online media outlets including Helsingin Sanomat<\/a>, Le Soir, Hufvudstadsbladet<\/a>, Euronews<\/a>, Radio Helsinki<\/a> and The Brussels Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

23. Our Director, Laura Boxberg<\/strong> facilitated and joined roundtables and discussions in Belgium<\/a> and Luxembourg<\/a>.<\/p>\n

La\u00efla Amezian<\/strong> at the Women-Music-Futures Symposium at the University of Helsinki, Finland<\/p>\n

The Reflecting Light<\/strong> residency at Mad House and UniArts Helsinki, Finland<\/p>\n

RADIUS<\/strong> Center for Contemporary Art & Ecology\u2019s research trip to Finland and Estonia<\/p>\n

Anna Maria H\u00e4kkinen<\/strong>\u2019s performance Doom & Bloom<\/em> at Teatteri Takomo, Helsinki<\/p>\n

Aur\u00e9lie Disas<\/strong>i\u2019s session at the intercultural and antiracist platform #StopHatredNow, Helsinki and online.<\/p>\n

Even Minn<\/strong>\u2019s presentation of Alien Mother<\/em> at Vleeshaal, Middelburg, the Netherlands<\/p>\n

Satu<\/strong> and Maria Tani<\/strong>\u2019s participation at Art Brut Bi\u00ebnnale in Hengelo, the Netherlands<\/p>\n

And last but not least \u2013 WE CELEBRATED 30 YEARS OF US!<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n
